The hard consistency of YAKERS chews ensures that dogs have to put in some effort to soften and break them apart, resulting in a longer chewing experience and helping reduce plaque and tartar. Each chew is also rich in calcium and protein thanks to the natural properties of yak milk.
For an added twist, simply pop the small end pieces in the microwave for 30 – 60 seconds until they puff up. After allowing them to cool, hand them back to your dog to savour and finish the whole treat.
Our Process
YAKERS chews continue to be lovingly handcrafted in the Himalayas, following age-old traditions that make each chew unique. Through the skilled hands of artisans, these chews are meticulously crafted, ensuring that no two are exactly alike. Just like your dog, every YAKERS chew embodies its own individual character and charm. 1 It all starts with the milk…
The milk gets delivered from local farms, local dairies and individual herders in the Himalayas.
2 The milk is turned into cheese
Once the cream is removed to make sure each chew is low in fat, we add a small amount of lime juice and salt to the recipe to help solidify the cheese.
3 The cheese is then compressed
Most of the moisture is removed from the hardened solids using a muslin cloth, this squeezes out any excess to get the cheese ready to rest.
4 Time to rest
Once the blocks are formed, they are left to rest for a few days, making them the perfect texture to be cut.
5 Then cut and smoke dried
Once each chew has been cut to size, they are hung on a wire grid in specialist smoking sheds and smoke-dried for 28 days.
